IT News & Updates 5-24-19

Just a couple of items to mention.

  1. Phishing has started up again. This week I’ve seen one set that threatens to deactivate your Office365 account unless you “click here to re-validate”.  The other is a job add for “immediate hire” of part-time assist job. IF you are someone looking for a summer job or supplementing your income, you might be tempted to hit the “click to apply” link. Don’t fall for either one. Since they are coming from hacked WSU email accounts, forward the emails to abuse@wsu.eduso they can get the hacked accounts fixed and get the malicious destination website taken down (they contact the domain owners).
  2. New people coming onboard with old WSU email accounts may need to go through the process of setting up their accounts through the Okta security interface. If those people had a WSU netID on the books from a previous hire or as a student and have not used that account since the Okta project started, they likely did not receive the activation invitations to reset their accounts. To use the account now, they will need to go through the process through http://activate.wsu.edu. To learn how to do this, they can watch a YouTube video that goes through the steps. The video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zopKavGyRps&feature=youtu.be

Ok – That’s it for this week!
