Outlook email spam/junk filtering

Do you get a lot of spam and junk mail in your inbox? There are ways to “harden” your Outlook inbox to help block unwanted email.

By default, Outlook does not have email filtering enabled. Assuming you are using Outlook 2016, Follow these steps: (To view how to change settings when using Office 365 mail online, visit here.)

  • In the Home tab, select the Junk email options under the Junk drop down
  • Review those tabs, Options (IT Security recommends that the Options be set to high at a minimum, though you can experiment on your own); also check disable links and warn me.
  • Safe senders tab list (check also trust and automatically add) Safe Recipients tab (no notes,
