Maria lived in Pennsylvania and went to Bridgewater College in Virginia. She is interested in plant and forest pathology. While she is here, she will be working with Dr. Parama Sikdar to help solve problems associated with postharvest rot of apples. They will be searching for a disease-resistant crabapple genotype to replace the current pollinizer, Manchurian crabapple.
