Welcome to Kelly O’Neil who is joining TFREC as the new Orchard Manager.
I recently was the Plant Science Operational Manager at Cal Poly University. I oversaw annual and perennial crop production and operations for the Plant Science Department. The perennial crops are primarily Citrus and Avocado. The annual production consists of conventional and organic row crops specific for the Central Coast area which includes Cole crops, romaine, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers and winter squash. The primary goal of the farms is framed by the “Learn by Doing” model which provides classroom material and active, hands-on training for students interested in pursuing careers in the Agriculture Industry.
Prior to Cal Poly University, I was a Farm Manager for Oregon State University at the Botany and Plant Pathology farm. During my stretch at Oregon State University is where I found a strong passion in helping to support university led research and the importance of the work being done.
My family is looking forward to becoming part of the community here in the area and for many years.
