New Postdoc for Amiri’s Lab

Welcome Dr. Mustafa Ojonuba Jibrin to Dr. Amiri’s lab

Dr. Jibrin recently completed a 2-year post Doc position at the UF/IFAS Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC). He has a PhD from University of Florida, Gainesville. He also received a Bachelor degree in Agriculture and MS in Crop Protection from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. During his MS study, he was a Norman Borlaug Fellow at the University of Florida, Gainesville and International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, Tanzania. His past research included diagnosis, characterization, and genomic studies on evolution of Xanthomonas species causing bacterial spot disease on tomato and pepper. His post-doctoral studies also included evaluation of novel chemicals for management of bacterial spot disease as well as metabolomics and transcriptomics to decipher mode of activity. He also routinely carried out diagnosis of bacterial and fungal plant diseases. At TFREC, he is looking forward to working with the Amiri lab to implement studies aimed at detecting and characterizing sources of patulin contamination in processed apples.  He also excited to explore how patulin production may vary in recovered isolates and potential consequences for the apple industry.
