New Grad Student for Betsy’s lab

Robert studied Archaeology at Oregon State, yet grew up surrounded by entomology. His father, Dariusz, is himself an entomologist, and taught Robert much about the field. During the summer of 2020, he partook in an independent research study in Monmouth, OR concerning the host range expansion of Prionus californicus longhorn beetles into hazelnut and other fruit trees, using pheromone traps to monitor insect counts. the next January, as well as the following spring, he took supplemental courses from his Alma Mater, OSU, including courses in Integrated Pest Management and Aquatic Entomology, both of which presented information on insect anatomy, behavior, and the methods in which humans curb pest infestations. The following summer, he resumed research on Prionus californicus, this time in Canby, OR, and this time factoring tree age into the equation as well as overall tree health.

Robert seeks to pursue his career in entomology at WSU. As a masters student, he hopes to focus on studying host range expansion, as he did 2 years ago  And along with developing his scientist communication skills, he hopes to broaden his knowledge of Integrated Pest Management, hoping to gain further insight into possible eco-friendly methods of insect pest control.
