New Fall 2016 Grad Students

Stefan Roeder joins the Musacchi research program.

Stefan Roeder comes to the Center from Germany. After he graduated (MS, Horticulture Science) in August 2015, he worked for a year as a research assistant for the Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission in Yakima, WA. Stefan joined the WSU PhD program in August 2016 and will work with Stefano Musacchi’s group. His work will focus on new apple pollinizer to replace the Manchurian crabapple.

 

Nadia Valcerdi joins the Kalcsits research program.

Nadia Valverdi comes from Catamarca, Argentina (Northwest part of the country) where she graduated as an Ingeniero Agronomo (Agronomist) from Univercidad Nacional de Catamarca. She earned a Fulbright scholarship to do her Master’s in Horticulture Science at WSU-IAREC working with Dr. Matthew Whiting on ‘The effects of near-harvest irrigation on sweet cherry fruit quality’. After achieving her master’s degree, Dr. Lee Kalcsits offered her the opportunity to work towards her PhD working on a research project focusing on understanding the impact of photoselective anti-hail netting on the physiological status of apple, which she gladly accepted.
