AMS update

Things seem to be working OK this week with the video conferencing system.

I emailed Bill Bonner and told him about the concerns with the microphones. The first concern is that in Stockwell, the location of the mic prevents some people from being heard i.e., sitting in a position where the mic is behind them. He said we could try moving the mic a little farther forward. But it shouldn’t be moved to much because it could pick up sound bouncing from the front wall and the directionality feature could be impaired. (The 360° mic works with the cameras to find and focus on the speaker.)

The second concern is that the sound quality for the instructor/speaker in the large conference room is “muddy” compared to transmissions from campus. I asked if we could get something like the wireless lapel mic that campus uses at many of their locations. Bill said he would get back to me with some suggested models that should work with our system. I was also told that the expected podium would help to accommodate a mic.

And, speaking of the expected podium… Apparently, it is sitting in Everett waiting for us to go over and retrieve it. All that is needed is to figure out a mode of transportation and who will go. It’s pretty heavy so they are recommending a truck with a lift gate.
