Most browser’s default security settings block sites from using javascript and\/or cookies for your safety. Ads, pop-up windows and malicious content often utilize this type of code. To keep you safe, the privacy and security settings for your browsers try to block any content that is rendered this way. And most of the time you want to block “cookies” to prevent sites from retaining any information about you. But what happens when you need to access content on a webpage that requires javascript and\/or cookies to be enabled, such as when using SkillSoft training? You would need to go into your browser settings and allow or “enable” those functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although browser versions are constantly updating and the way you access the settings may change, I’ve tried to list the instructions for the various browsers most of you use. Click on the browser name to go to those instructions. When you are done viewing SkillSoft or other specific sites that require these to be enabled, you should go back and switch back to the safer settings to ensure future safe browsing.<\/p>\n\n\n

CHROME – Windows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Click the three dots <\/strong>in the upper right corner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Select Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Click Advanced<\/strong> at the bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Under Privacy and security<\/strong>, click Site Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Select Cookies and check “Allow sites to save and read cookie data”(if needed).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Select Javascript and check “Allowed”.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    CHROME – Mac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Go to the Chrome menu and select Preferences<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Click on the “Advanced” tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Click on “Privacy and Security”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Click “Site Settings”.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Select Cookies and site data” and check “Allowed” (if needed).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Select Javascript and check “Allowed”.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      FIREFOX – Windows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      1. In Firefox, type \u201cabout:config<\/strong>\u201d in the address bar, then press Enter<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Select the I accept the risk!<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Type javascript<\/strong> in the Search<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. Ensure javascript.enabled<\/strong> is set to true<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      5. Click the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      6. Click Options <\/strong>or Preferences<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      7. Click Privacy & Security <\/strong>on the left<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      8. Under the History<\/strong> heading, set Firefox will<\/strong> to Remember History<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        FIREFOX – Mac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        1. From the Tools menu, click “Preferences”.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Click the “Content” tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Click to enable Javascript or Java.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Close the window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        5. Refresh the browser by either using the shortcut keys Cmd+R or by using the reload button on the toolbar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          INTERNET EXPLORER – Windows only<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          1. From the Tools<\/strong> menu, select Internet Options<\/strong>. (In IE9 and up, the Tools menu is a gear icon)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. To enable session cookies, click the Privacy<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Locate the Settings<\/strong> slider and change the privacy settings to Medium<\/strong>. If you have an older version of IE, locate and click the checkbox next to Always allow session cookies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. To enable JavaScript, click the Security<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          5. Under Select a zone to view<\/strong>, click Internet<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          6. Locate the Custom<\/strong> area of the Security<\/strong> tab, and click the Custom Level<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          7. From the Security Settings<\/strong> dialog box that opens, scroll through the options until you see Scripting<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          8. Check the radio buttons next to Enable Active Scripting<\/strong> and Scripting of Java applets<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          9. Click OK<\/strong> to accept scripting and cookie handling changes and close the Security Settings<\/strong> window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          10. From the Internet Options<\/strong> dialog box, click Apply<\/strong> to effect settings, and then OK<\/strong> to close the box.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            SAFARI – Windows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            1. Click Safari<\/strong> in the menu bar and choose Preferences<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. From the Preferences<\/strong> dialog box that opens, select the Security<\/strong> tab<\/strong> along the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. Next to Web Content<\/strong>, check the Enable JavaScript<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            4. Select the Privacy<\/strong> tab<\/strong> along the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            5. Next to Cookies and website data<\/strong>, make sure Block all cookies<\/strong> is unchecked.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              SAFARI – Mac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
