{"id":2889,"date":"2019-04-12T15:55:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-12T22:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tfrec.cahnrs.wsu.edu\/admin\/?page_id=2889"},"modified":"2026-04-16T11:56:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T18:56:43","slug":"vehicle-use","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tfrec.cahnrs.wsu.edu\/admin\/vehicle-use\/","title":{"rendered":"WSU Vehicle Use Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vehicle Use<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Persons driving WSU motor vehicles must be employees of the university or associated with the university by courtesy appointment, contract, or another type of agreement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All persons driving WSU motor vehicles must have a valid motor vehicle operator&#8217;s license and at&nbsp;least two years f driving experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minor employees (those under the age of 18) are not allowed to drive a WSU vehicle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WSU vehicles shall&nbsp;be used for official university business only, regardless of the source of support funds. Use of state-owned vehicles for personal business is absolutely prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employees driving state vehicles should be doubly cautious to avoid incidents which would attract adverse public attention. Traffic and speed laws should be followed strictly. Defensive driving should be practiced.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seat belts are required for the driver and all passengers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drivers must comply with all traffic laws and obey posted speed limits, including:\n<ul>\n<li>TFREC = 10 mph<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Columbia View (Longview Rd.) = 20 mph<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sunrise orchard = 20 mph<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The use of cell phones while driving is STRONGLY discouraged:\n<ul>\n<li>Must be hands-free<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Absolutely no texting<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the full list of driver responsibilities&nbsp;see <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/7-00-motor-vehicle-safety\/7-10-requirements-driving-vehicles-university-business\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SPPM 7.10.19-20<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vehicle Items<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>All TFREC vehicles are required to carry the following items:\n<ul>\n<li>First aid kit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>List of phone numbers of all area hospitals\/medical facilities (TFREC ALL Teams &#8211; Safety Training Folder &#8211; revised 2013)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency\/accident guide located in TFREC ALL Teams Safety Training Folder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of insurance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refueling card<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition, all vehicles used for field use must carry:\n<ul>\n<li>Clean water and\/or eyewash<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soap and single-use towels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One clean pair of coveralls per field crew<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In Case of Accident<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Obtain medical treatment for anyone injured<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call law enforcement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obtain the following information:\n<ul>\n<li>Name, address, and telephone of involved parties, including witnesses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vehicle descriptions and license plates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insurance company name and address<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notify your supervisor as soon as possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow the accident guide found in the glove box of the vehicle, which includes WSU insurance information, or see <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/safety-policies-procedures-manual\/sppm-7-20\/\">SPPM 7.20<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill out a State of Washington Vehicle Accident Report (SF-137) found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/des.wa.gov\/policies-legal\/risk-management\/reporting-accident-involving-state-driver\">DES website<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For a complete list of emergency and post-accident guidelines, see <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/documents\/2017\/10\/7-10-emergency-and-post-accident-guidelines.pdf\/\">SPPM 7.10.21<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, the complete &#8220;Requirements for Driving Vehicles for University Use&#8221; are located in <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.wsu.edu\/prf\/index\/manuals\/safety-policies-procedures-manual\/sppm-7-10\/\">SPPM 7.10.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The quiz for this section will be combined in the &#8220;facilities securities vehicle use quiz&#8221; found in the Facilities, Security and Vehicle Use folder on the TFREC ALL Teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>&lt;&lt; <em>Return to<\/em> <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tfrec.cahnrs.wsu.edu\/admin\/new-employee-orientation\/\">Orientation Training<\/a> start page<\/td><td><strong><em>Proceed to:<\/em> <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tfrec.cahnrs.wsu.edu\/admin\/tfrec-fire-safety-training\/\">Fire Safety<\/a> <strong>&nbsp;&gt;&gt;<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vehicle Use Vehicle Items In Case of Accident For more information, the complete &#8220;Requirements for Driving Vehicles for University Use&#8221; are located in SPPM 7.10.
