WSU TFREC Field Day

Join WSU Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center for a field day Wednesday, August 7, 2019. This field day is designed to highlight the latest research for growers, consultants, and other industry professionals. We hope you will take home new ideas and enjoy an afternoon full of new information and networking with your peers.

This third annual event will highlight the latest in horticulture, entomology, plant pathology and breeding projects. Horticulture highlights include a fourth leaf top-grafted WA 38 block with Dr. Stefano Musacchi and evaporative cooling and netting for sunburn mitigation with Dr. Lee Kalcsits.  Dr. Betsy Beers will showcase netting trials to exclude stink bug and do sterile codling moth releases with M3 consulting. Compare three types of particle films and learn to ID pear natural enemies with Dr. Louis Nottingham. Take a sneak peek at pear rootstock breeding with Drs. Kate Evans and Soon Li Teh. Hands-on demos of postharvest diseases with Dr. Achour Amiri will improve your ability to mitigate problems in the packing house. Learn about cropload management and bitterpit predictive models with Tree Fruit Research Commission Tory Schmidt and Manoella Mendoza. Learn how Dr. Loren Honaas is examining gene activity in multiple apple cultivars to find genes that relate to maturity in the search for new maturity indices. Walk a newly planted block where Extension Tianna DuPont and ARS’s Dr. Mark Mazzola are using biologically based methods to prevent replant disease.
